The digital print market continued to show strong growth in 2007, but was not enough to compensate for the fall in demand from analog.
U.S. demand for prints from digital grew 20 percent to 17 billion in 2007, accounting for 68 percent of total print demand that year. Overall print demand fell 3 percent, however, due to falling demand for prints from film.
European demand for prints from digital grew 18 percent to 12.9 billion in 2007, accounting for 72 percent of total print demand that year. However, overall demand for prints fell 7 percent to 17.8 billion, due to falling demand for prints from film (down 40 percent). Photo speciality and gifts markets both witnessed explosive growth in 2007. Last year in Western Europe, the photo speciality (photobooks & calendars) market grew 150 percent in value to euro 440 million with the photo gifts market growing 40 percent to euro 90 million.
